(Pictured from left to right: Noah MacInnis, Justin Malialas, Eduardo Gevenez, Andrea Eby, Jay Herbsen, Pouru Patell, Amanda Phillips, Justin Vogt, Oscar Blue, Vishal Prem Jagarapu) It's been three years since CAPUMA was able to attend the AMA ICC in person. In 2020, their trip to New Orleans got cancelled due to the rise of the COVID-19 pandemic, and in 2021, the conference took place virtually. However, the association's diligence and patience paid off, as members of CAPUMA flew to Chicago for the 2022 AMA International Collegiate Conference. The three-day conference, which took place during March 17th-19th, was packed with 370+ collegiate chapters across North America. Among them, CAPUMA was one of two Collegiate chapters representing Canada in the Windy City. Throughout the various opportunities and festivities of networking with industry professionals, faculty, and peers alike, the conference is home to multiple marketing and sales competitions, where student alike test their business savvy and marketing aptitude. In the Collegiate Case Competition sponsored by Amazon, our case team placed 2nd out of 200+ schools across North America! The team, which consist of: Nadine Frankowski, Oscar Blue, Vy Nguyen, Devon Kular, Svitlana Shapotkina, Gimena Machado, Valerie Pham, Ariel Xu, Amanda Phillips, Noah MacInnis, Eduardo Gevenez, and Vishal Prem Jagarapu, were coached by our faculty advisor Andrea Eby, who started the road to Chicago in the summer of 2021. The associated was well represented in the rest of the marketing competitions. Amanda Phillips earned an Honorable Mention in the Perfect Pitch Competition Noah MacInnis placed 8th in the Undergraduate Research Competition, Oscar Blue placed 4th in the in the Sherwin-Williams Sales Competition, and Justin Malialas, Jay Herbsen, Pouru Patell, and Justin Vogt completed in the Riddle & Bloom Marketplace Simulation and the IIBD Ltd SABRE Simulation. The association is ecstatic to be part of this thrilling and empowering experience, and we can't wait to do it all again next year, as the AMA ICC returns to New Orleans in 2023!

  • VIRTUAL CONNECTIONS IN A DIGITAL CAMPUS: THE CBPS VIRTUAL WINTER MIXER

Last Friday, CAPUMA, along with the rest of the associations of the Capilano Business and Professional Society, hosted a Virtual Winter Mixer for all students of Cap U to enjoy. After what has been a stressful and tumultuous Fall Semester, an event like the Winter Mixer, where students can unwind, relax, and be themselves, was crucial to have in sustaining social engagement among peers in our digital campus. Due to the pandemic, the majority of classes at Capilano University have been taking place This was the first CBPS virtual event that utilized the Discord communication platform. Mainly used for gaming communication, Discord allows users to seamlessly transition from room to room, providing the attendees with a non-linear experience. Preplanning for the event involved the commitment of the CBPS student leaders. They would meet on a regular basis to discuss the logistics and feasibility of the virtual event. Topics such as: food delivery for guests, the structure and agenda of the mixer, marketing, and overall value were of the common subjects discussed. For CAPUMA's involvement with the Virtual Winter Mixer, they spearheaded advertising and marketing for the event. which was no surprise at all. Led by CAPUMA's Director of Social Media, Luis Goncalves, CAPUMA ran a successful marketing campaign for the event. Mc'ed by CAPUMA President Terrence Alanis, and CAPUMA Director of Events Dara Di Rocco, the event had over 50 students attending the event.
